The four of them meet on a hunt one summer in Boston, and after clearing up some misunderstandings they hit it off. They have a few drinks together and Dean asks Connor and Murphy which of them is older. They both say “I am” and then they all laugh. A couple of days later they part ways.
Dean never finds a way to get Sam out of the cage. He never gives up, but nothing works. He tries to have a life with Lisa and Ben, but it’s only half a life, because the most important part of him is gone.

One day he gets a call from Connor, and they talk about nothing for a couple of minutes, before Connor finally tells him that he lost Murphy a couple of months earlier. So Dean tells him about Sam and then they talk about their brothers, telling each other about all the best times, and they laugh - that hollow laugh that Dean is so very good at.
